Providing Services to Markets
Registries have become a key component for markets as they allow for the secured and transparent tracking of ownership of complex instruments such as Guarantees of Origin, energy saving certificates or emission allowances.
In 2018, the French Minister for an Ecological and Solidary Transition also appointed Powernext - and now EEX - to organize the auctioning of Guarantees of Origin produced by the plants benefiting from a support mechanism, after reappointing the company as the operator of the National Registry for Guarantees of Origin of electricity produced from renewable sources.
Since the launch of France’s power capacity mechanism in 2015, EEX has developed and operated an electronic registry system for RTE (the French Transmission System Operator (TSO), which is responsible for this mechanism), enabling capacity guarantee certificates to be granted to market participants, and then transferred between account holders.
In 2017, Powernext - and now EEX - has also been appointed in the role of operator of the French registry for Energy Savings Certificates for a first 5 years period from January 2018.
